Waxing Benefits: The Main Advantages of Waxing

There are many waxing benefits to enjoy, otherwise this hair removal method wouldn’t be so popular.

I think that, besides shaving, this is the most mentioned one when it comes to removing unwanted hairs.

At least,

Everyone knows what you’re referring to when mentioning it, even men who would never consider getting waxed.

Although,

It’s becoming an option for them too, especially during the summer for the chest and back.

Smooth Skin for Weeks

waxing benefit: smooth skin

Let’s talk about one of the greatest waxing benefits:

You get really smooth skin for about two weeks.

Up to 2 weeks your skin is really smooth, even though tiny hairs are starting to grow back it still feels amazing to the touch.

You can wax again in about 3-4 weeks.

So, on average you have to deal with unwanted hairs once a month.

The exception are the underarms and the face: you should wax those two area once every 2 weeks.

The wax sticks to the hairs and, when pulled, it removes the hairs from their follicle thus, the regrowth period takes its sweet time.

Whereas,

I epilate twice in the same amount of time, I epilate once every two weeks.

That’s the big advantage when using an epilator: it grabs small tiny hairs, as well. Think of tweezing and you know exactly what I’m talking about.

No cuts/nicks, stubble or itchiness

The hair is removed from its follicle so it will be about 2 weeks before you feel any hairs growing and their texture is on the fine side, no stubble.

Obviously,

The hair is pulled from the follicle so there’s no way that there would be any nicks or bruising or inflammation.

When the hairs grow back after shaving, the skin can become itchy. Unless you moisturize frequently and soften the hairs and the skin.

There’s no such itchiness when it comes to waxing when the hairs start growing back.

You only have to make sure that the wax isn’t too hot, that’s the only precaution that you need to take.

In the case of cold strips, not even that.

Acts as an Exfoliator

When the wax is pulled, it also removes dead skin cells so it acts as an exfoliator.

It makes the skin feel even smoother.

Even so,

You should still exfoliate between sessions to prevent ingrown hairs.

Fewer ingrown hairs are caused by waxing than by shaving but they can still appear.

Let 48 hours pass since you’ve removed the hairs and then you can exfoliate. You can use a body scrub, exfoliating gloves or a brush.

Those who haven’t had a problem with ingrown hairs can exfoliate 2-3 times a week.

Bikini Waxing Benefits

DIY brazilian waxing

  • no razor bumps, itchiness
  • it works on coarse hairs without a problem, even men can benefit immensely from a Brazilian if they want to be completely smooth
  • a bit less painful than epilation
  • you have a few options: bikini line, bikini full, and Brazilian (the behind is also waxed)

Underarms Waxing Benefits

underarms waxing benefits

  • no more dark skin on the underarms, which is actually caused by the dark roots that remain under the skin in the case of shaving
  • there’s no risk of catching the skin – it can happen with an epilator if the underarms skin is not properly stretched

Face Waxing Benefits

facial waxing benefits

  • it works for both peach fuzz and coarse hairs
  • if you only want to wax your facial hair but no other part of the body you can simply get some cold facial wax strips
  • using cold facial strips is easy, fast, pretty affordable, and not messy – as long as pull the strip swiftly and quickly
  • hard wax works great, too, in case you already have experience with it and even sugaring is a good option

Waxing Cons

I’ve talked about all these waxing benefits but what are the drawbacks?

    • it’s a painful hair removal method, unlike shaving and depilatory creams which are pain-free, though the smooth skin lasts for only a couple of days
    • the hair needs to be at least 1/4 inch long (grain of rice), which means up to 2 weeks of no shaving if this will be your first experience – you can start in the winter or spring when letting your hairs grow won’t be so inconvenient
    • after 2 weeks the hair can be quite visible, especially for those with dark hair like mine, so it’s not always comfortable waiting until the hairs have the proper length to be waxed again
    • for those using prescription medication for acne, waxing can cause bruising – BARE has a full list of which medication can pose a problem
    • going to a salon is really expensive even though you only need to go once a month or once every 3 weeks
    • at-home waxing is more affordable but it requires a bit of patience because it can take at least an hour to remove the hairs from legs, if you’re a total beginner it can take up to two hours
    • ingrown hairs but that’s basically true for any temporary hair removal method

Does waxing reduce hair growth?

Last but not least,

There’s one thing I want to mention.

I come across this statement very often, in one form or another: in time, waxing reduces hair growth.

That would seem like an awesome benefit.

However,

I don’t agree with it.

It’s like saying that shaving causes more hair growth.

Both are not true.

I have been epilating for more than 10 years, I’ve shave for a lot of years, and even waxed when I afforded going to a beauty salon.

My hairs grow back in the same number, at the same rate, and I definitely don’t have any spots that are hair-free due to so many years of removing hairs from the root.

Maybe your experience is different and I would love to hear all about it.

Does less hair growth count among waxing benefits in your case?
