Also, keep in mind that you only pay for an epilator once and get to use it for many years to come. It’s not like waxing, where you have to buy hard wax or waxing strips regularly.

That’s why I always say that epilation is one of the cheapest hair removal methods.

Epilators for Underarms: Top Picks

1. A Facial Epilator: Emjoi e18

It’s powered by two AA batteries but with its 18 tweezers, it can be used successfully as an epilator for underarms and it even works for the intimate area.

2. Cheapest: Philips Satinelle BRE235

A basic affordable corded epilator with a sensitive area cap for the underarms/bikini area/face but with no built-in light and a bit slow on the legs.

3. Powerful: Emjoi eRase e60

If you want a more powerful model with a lot more tweezers that’s also corded, you should consider this Emjoi e60. It even has a sensitive area cap and the price is pretty affordable.

4. Pretty Perfect: Braun Silk Epil 7561

If it weren’t for the fact that the Silk Epil 7 is a cordless epilator that is under the risk of the battery no longer holding a charge, this would be the absolute perfect epilator for the underarms, the body, and the face.

5 Best Epilators for Underarms Reviewed

Besides the Emjoi e18, which is primarily an epilator for face, there are quite a bunch of models to choose from.

If you are like me and you have rather coarse hair that requires more power to be removed from the root, without being broken at the surface of the skin, then you are better with a full-sized epilator.

These are best epilators for underarms that can be used on the whole body.

If you’re still unsure about handling the pain, get an epilator with a sensitive area cap. The sensitive area cap obstructs most of the tweezers, leaving only a few to make contact with the skin.

It’s the same with a facial cap only that a facial cap has a much smaller opening, almost twice as small as a sensitive area cap.

I’ve selected just 4 models as the best epilators for underarms to get you started. It’s easier when there are fewer choices, less confusing.

These 4 models cover all budgets. The beauty of choosing the best epilator for underarms is that you don’t need a big budget to get an awesome device.

1. Philips Satinelle BRE235: Cheap Best Epilator for Underarms

The Philips Satinelle BRE235 is one of the most affordable choices when it comes to picking out the best epilators for underarms.

This is an affordable classic epilator.

It can be used to remove hairs from all over the body, including the face.

It’s very good at removing hairs from the root without breaking them at the surface of the skin.

It’s very good for both thin short hairs as well as coarse hairs. A very good choice as a best epilator for underarms.

Comes with a sensitive area cap

I definitely recommend attaching the sensitive area cap when using it to remove hairs from areas like the armpits and the bikini area.

It works great on the legs and sensitive areas.

It doesn’t mention anywhere how many tweezers it has.

However,

Given that its predecessor is the highly popular very resilient Philips Satinelle HP6401, I am pretty sure that the new Philips Satinelle BRE235 has the same 20 tweezers. Their shape is the same, too.

Given the low number of tweezers, this is not the fastest epilator.

There are also two speeds. Use it on speed 1 if the pain is too intense for you.

It’s corded but the long cord offers plenty freedom of movement.

The head is removable and washable.

There’s no built-in light, they could have included that for this new model from the Satinelle series. That would have been a very nice improvement.

All in all, the Philips Satinelle BRE235 is a great choice as the best epilator for underarms if you are on a tight budget.

3. Braun Silk Epil 7561: Expensive Best Epilator for Underarms

And here is the last choice as one of the best epilators for underarms. The most expensive choice.

It’s not entirely worth it if you only plan on using it for removing hairs from the underarms but it’s totally worth it if you plan on using it to remove hairs from all over your body plus face.

It has 40 tweezers that are close grip, meaning that the Silk-Epil 7561 effortlessly removes hairs as short as 0.5mm.

It’s also really powerful and fast.

If that is not fascinating enough, then let me tell you about the caps.

There are 3 caps

  • an efficiency cap
  • a sensitive area cap for the underarms and the bikini area
  • and a facial cap

Additional accessories include a shaver and a trimmer head and a separate bikini trimmer.

Besides being one of the best epilators for underarms, the Braun Silk Epil 7 is a fantastic all-around epilator that will work perfectly, no matter which area of the body you plan on using it on.

The biggest disadvantage is that it’s cordless.

There’s no telling when the battery simply won’t hold a charge, which will make the Braun Silk Epil 7 useless.

Corded models are indeed a lot more reliable and I hope we move on from this trend of cordless epilators soon.

I’m still waiting on that, although I am completely satisfied with their performance to remove the hairs from their follicles from the face, legs, underarms, and bikini area.

It’s an efficient instrument for getting rid of unwanted hairs for about 2 weeks, when they start becoming a nuisance again.

How to Choose the Best Epilator for Underarms

When it comes to choosing the best epilators for underarms there are two options:

  • you can choose to epilate the underarms hair with an epilator for face
  • or you go with a regular epilator, one that works great for removing hairs from the root from the entire body

I’ve always used a regular epilator to do my underarms, instead of choosing a facial epilator.

Why is that?

I have rather thick dark hairs, meaning that I prefer fast and powerful devices.

With a full-sized epilator, removing hairs from my underarms is so fast and great!

An Epilator for Face as the Best Epilator for Underarms

First of all,

If you don’t want to epilate your whole body but you solely want an epilator for the underarms, then an epilator for face might be the best option for you.

They’re also quite affordable.

If you don’t have that many hairs that need to be removed from the root and they are thin, then you can definitely use a facial epilator to remove hair from the underarms.

Even if you have coarse hairs, an epilator for face would work on the underarms hair because these type of epilators, at least the latest models, are pretty powerful.

And they have a lot of tweezers. Nowadays, epilators for face can be used to remove hairs from the face, underarms, and bikini area.

5. Emjoi e18 – Best Epilator for Face and Underarms

The Emjoi e18 is:

  • a very affordable epilator, I might say that this one is quite cheap
  • quite powerful, being powered by two AA batteries
  • has 18 tweezers (that’s a very good number of tweezers) that spin in order to grab those hairs and remove them from the root
  • perfect if you want an epilator only for small areas, it can be used on the bikini area, too
  • handles coarse hairs very well
  • great as a first best epilator for underarms

The disadvantage is the need to replace the 2 AA batteries. It’s not a corded or a rechargeable epilator, you will need to spend extra money on the batteries.

How to Epilate Your Underarms

Epilating is a fairly simple method: all you have to do is to move the epilator slowly against the direction in which the hairs are growing.

And, there will be no darkened skin in sight. It can happen with shaving if you have black hairs because the dark strong roots are left under the skin, a razor only cuts the hairs at the surface of the skin, which can leave that dark shadow impression.

Since waxing and epilators remove the hairs from the root, the skin looks smooth and clear.

It’s painful

There’s really nothing difficult about it as long as you can handle the pain. That’s the real trick to it, having a rather high pain threshold.

In my opinion,

Epilation is slightly more painful than waxing. If you’re already used to waxing your underarms and you want to switch to a cheaper, less messy method for removing unwanted hairs, epilation will not be a problem at all.

However,

Switching from shaving to epilation, will be a whole different matter. The first session might bring tears to your eyes and a few specks of blood.

I also wrote a guide on how to use an epilator, if you are interested in finding out more.

Just remember: always moisturize after each epilation to sooth the skin, a nourishing moisturizer does all the difference.

Moisturize the skin immediately and you will be fine the next day.

The second trick to epilating your underarms

Stretch your arms high above your head, the skin needs to taught so that no folds of skin are caught by the tweezers.

It happened to me, it leaves a red patch of skin that hurts at the friction for a couple of days.

It’s easier to epilate in the mirror.

Move the epilator slowly first upwards then downwards and then from side to side. The hairs grow in different directions in this area.

Don’t insist to much on an area if there a couple of hairs that won’t be grabbed by the tweezers. That can irritate the skin.

I speak from experience that if you make 10 passes over the same area for one stubborn hair, the skin will get sore.

How Often Should You Epilate the Underarms?

If I let more than two weeks pass between sessions, the hairs become quite visible.

Thankfully, after so many years of removing them from the root the hairs have become thinner and fewer.

If I epilate once every two weeks everything is absolutely perfect. And I’m done in no more than 2-3 minutes with both sides.

My skin is already used to it so the redness passes in an hour, just like it’s the case with my upper lip.

Basically, epilate when the hairs start bothering you. If they grow back quicker then you can epilate sooner than the 2 weeks’ period that works for me.

Epilate once every 2 weeks

When choosing the best epilator for underarms there is one question that inevitably appears: is it going to hurt?

This is also one of the reasons why women would rather go for a gentler hair removal device, like a facial epilator.

I have to be blunt and say that it’s definitely going to hurt. The underarms area is a sensitive area of the body, just like the bikini area is.

But, you get used to the pain after the number of epilation sessions starts pilling up.

The first experiences are the tricky ones. You just have to get through those.

In the beginning, it’s best to epilate frequently. It hurts less when the hairs are just starting to grow back.

In my case, if I let more than two weeks pass then I know that the pinches will be more painful.

The more time passes and the hairs grow longer, the more pain you are going to feel.

For those of you who are used to waxing, using an epilator would be less painful.

I used to shave before becoming an epilator girl so, for me, the pain was quite bad but I pulled through it and I’m so glad I did.

There were even tiny specks of blood, my roots are not to be messed around with.

I love looking at my underarms in the mirror. No dark shadow, no black roots showing beneath the skin, as it was when I used to shave.

To Sum It Up

Using a best epilator for underarms:

  • is very fast
  • but painful
  • you get used to in time
  • not messy at all
  • and if you moisturize immediately the irritation will be gone in a few hours

That’s why I always recommend epilators:

  • they are affordable – long-term, one of the cheapest hair removal methods
  • offer smooth skin for an acceptable period of time
  • and there is no dark shadow like you get with shaving

Getting a best epilator for underarms can save you a lot of money while offering smooth skin for about 2-3 weeks, what’s not to like, if you can handle the pain?
