6 Best Epilators for Face for All Budgets

best epilators for face
Finding the best epilator for face has been a pretty amazing experience for me. I’ve gone from using cold facial wax strips to using epilators on my facial hair.

Unwanted facial hair is such a burden for many women, myself included.

Whatever it might be, simply peach fuzz or coarse, facial hair should not be an embarrassment for any woman.

It’s not like it’s our fault for having it, we didn’t ask for it so why are we to be looked at differently because we have hairs on our upper lip, sideburns or chin?

You shouldn’t be embarrassed about your facial hair. The only reason for wanting to remove it is because you do it for yourself and not in order to avoid being judged by others.

I have hair on my sideburns and it’s quite dark and noticeable, especially under a bright light, but I don’t intend to remove it in the near future or maybe ever. It doesn’t bother me.

I already epilate a big part of my body so I don’t need to add another part to the list.

I’ll just stick to removing my upper lip hair and tweezing my eyebrows. Laziness is a big factor in my decision, I’m more lazy than I care what other think about my dark sideburns or the peach fuzz on my cheeks or the pretty noticeable peach fuzz on my chin and jaw.

Best Epilator for Face: My Top 4 Picks

1. The Best: Emjoi Epi Slim+ e18

Currently, this is the best model that you could get for facial hair removal if you’re not looking for one that can be used on the body, as well, although with its 18 tweezers it is powerful enough to be used on the underarms and the intimate area.

2. Runner-Up: Braun Silk Epil 7561

It has a facial cap and a sensitive area cap, it can be used on the entire body and face and it’s also a bit gentle while still being fast and powerful, it’s still simply one of my favorites.

3. The Cheapest for Face + Body: Philips Satinelle BRE235

This is the classic affordable corded epilator with only 20 tweezers, the kind of model that can be used for many years to come without problems, and the bonus is that it includes a sensitive area cap that lets you use it on the face, as well.

4. The Most Expensive: Braun Silk Epil 9

A very powerful epilator that can be quite painful for beginners, it has a facial cap but I would say that it’s a much better choice for those who are already used to epilators and want a very good upgrade.

6 Best Epilators for Face

I’ve only included 6 epilators because I didn’t want to overwhelm you but there are a bunch of other models that can be used on the face.

In my epilator reviews post you can find the complete list for the best epilators for face and body at the moment.

The Emjoi e18 is the best choice if you want an epilator just for face and not the entire body (you can still use it on the underarms and the bikini area).

If you want the complete package, an epilator for body + face, then I think the Braun 7561 or the 7681 or the Series 9 is an excellent choice. But maybe you can check out the much cheaper option from Philips first.

1. Emjoi Epi Slim+ e18: Overall Best Facial Epilator

Previously, I have recommended the Emjoi AP-9l. I considered that it was the best facial epilator not because it was extraordinary but because it pretty much didn’t lack anything.

However, Emjoi has decided to discontinue their really good facial epilator and replace it with the new and improved Emjoi Epi Slim+ e18.

Luckily, it seems to be just as good an epilator as the Ap-9l was. It just has double the tweezers.

18 tweezers

Instead of having 9 tweezers, the Emjoi e18 one has 18 tweezers.

I am still wondering if those are too many tweezers for facial hair removal but it seems not.

It will definitely hurt. A lot in the beginning but it gets better in time.

You can definitely use it to remove hairs from the underarms and the bikini line, as well.

Even if you aren’t looking for the best epilator for face, this can be a very good epilator for those two sensitive areas.

2 AA batteries

The only problem is that it’s battery-operated, 2 AA batteries are needed and they are not included in the package.

It would have been perfect if it was rechargeable.

Maybe the next model will be because it’s much more convenient for people. I’m personally starting to forget that there are still things that need batteries to function.

They very good news is that the Emjoi Epi Slim e18 seems to be even better at removing thin hairs.

It has the Skin Glide Technology as well, which meant that there is a 3 disc system – 1 disc is fixed while the other two open and close while stretching the skin for more comfort during epilation.

Pain

Once again, I had to add that it’s still going to be painful.

I’m not happy that the Emjoi AP-9l is gone but I am definitely satisfied with its replacement. It seems to be even better than its predecessor.

A cleaning brush is included but I would recommend washing it from time to time for a better hygiene. I also pour rubbing alcohol over the tweezers after each usage.

Do I recommend the new Emjoi Epi Slim e18?

Yes, definitely, because it removes hairs without breaking them.

It removes hairs from the root whether we are talking about peach fuzz or coarse hair.

That’s why the Emjoi Epi Slim+ e18 is my new recommendation for the best facial epilator.

However:

If you want an even more powerful alternative for the best facial epilator, check out the Emjoi eRase e60. It also comes with a sensitive area cap, has 60 tweezers, and it can be used to remove facial hair. It’s a pretty great epilator.

2. Philips Satinelle BRE235: Cheapest Epilator for Face & Body

The Philips Satinelle BRE235 it’s a wonderful option for those who are looking for a cheap best epilator for face that can be used on the entire body as well.

It has just 20 tweezers but that’s my guess because I couldn’t find the information anywhere. I’m basing my guess on the fact that this is the successor to the very popular Philips hp6401.

It’s an improved version of the hp6401, a much prettier one, too.

The number of tweezers is pretty low so you understand why the addition of a sensitive area cap will block enough tweezers to allow you to use it on the face, too. The sensitive area cap is primarily designed for the intimate area.

It’s also a corded epilator, which will be a welcomed feature for some who still don’t trust that cordless epilators will be functional for years to come. After all, plenty of users have reported the battery not holding a charge anymore.

With corded epilators like the Philips Satinelle BRE235 that’s not a concern.

The lower number of tweezers means that epilating your legs will take a lot longer than if you were using a Braun model, like the ones below, but that’s not a bad thing if you want a movie or listen to something to entertain you.

What I really don’t like is the lack of a built-in light. It would have been an useful addition. Other than that, I really like this affordable epilator for face and body.

3. Braun Silk Epil 7561: One of My Favorites

Braun Silk Epil 7561 is the device that does a wonderful job at being one of the best epilators for legs, arms, a great epilator for underarms, bikini area and as being one of the best epilators for face.

It’s the complete package so it’s also more expensive than the rest.

Do you want to know the best part?

If you plan on epilating not only facial hair but the rest of your body as well, then you might be better off paying for just one amazing product, instead of two.

Facial cap

This model comes with a facial cap, which reduces the number of tweezers that make contact with the skin.

Via this downsize in the number of tweezers that make contact with the face, it can be used to remove hair from the upper lip, chin, cheeks, and sideburns.

The facial cap is incredibly narrow and that’s why Braun 7561 works so great in removing facial hair, peach fuzz or coarse it doesn’t make any difference.

Powerful

Being an epilator designed for the entire body, it’s also incredibly powerful thus, you need to use the narrow facial cap to remove facial hair.

That accessory transforms it into one of the best epilators for face, great for removing peach fuzz and coarse hairs, too.

Being a wet & dry epilator, you have to charge it for 1 hour and then it can be used cordless for up to 40 minutes.

But you don’t need 40 minutes to remove facial hair so a single charge will be enough to remove all the hair.

A single charge is enough for me to use it on both face and body.

But if I want to be really thorough on the body, I have to recharge it for another 20 minutes to get everything done perfectly.

4. Braun Silk Epil 9: Best for Face & Body

Immediately after being released, I decided to get the new Braun Silk Epil 9 epilator because I wanted to see what it can do.

I was so curious to see if this is one of the best epilators on the market.

I was already ecstatic with my Braun Silk Epil 7561, except the cordless part. Plus, the Braun 7 epilators are more affordable and just slightly less painful because they’re not as powerful.

After buying the 9561 and removing with it even my facial hair, I can easily say that this new series from Braun is amazing. At least from my point of view.

Some epilators from the Braun Silk Epil 9 series come with a facial cap some don’t.

Accessories

I recommend the 9579 because it has all the accessories that someone might want: massage rollers cap, skin contact cap, facial cap, shaving head and trimmer cap, facial cleansing brush, and charging stand.

My 9561 doesn’t have the cleansing brush for facial exfoliation. That’s the only difference between the two.

But if you don’t need all those accessories, you can get one with less accessories, which should also be cheaper.

Now let me tell you about my experience

First of all, it was painful.

And that is coming from someone who has been using cold facial wax strips for the last 7-8 years.

The two sensations are a bit different because a facial epilator removes the hairs gradually, while the wax removes a bigger strip all at once.

For me, the sensation is best described as tickling with pain.

The little indentation on the upper lip hurts the most.

The good news is that the pain is not in vain, the hairs are successfully removed, whether you have coarse or thin fine hairs.

I’ve used the epilator on speed 1 with the facial cap attached. I tried with the massage rollers cap on thinking it will be faster but it was a bit painful so I switched back to the facial cap.

My upper lip hairs started to really show after about 3 weeks but I got so busy with work that it took me another week until I finally said that I really need to remove those hairs from my face.

There were a lot of hairs.

I don’t recommend letting that much time pass between sessions.

It was more painful than the first time because this time the hairs were bigger and a lot more of them.

Epilate once every 2 weeks

Stick to epilating once every two weeks.

Besides being one of the best epilators for face, it’s a great one for body, too.

I am well aware of the fact that it’s expensive but it can remove hairs from the entire body plus face.

It’s fast, powerful, it removes coarse hairs as well as thin fine short hairs.

It’s all I need for now.

I alternate between using a Braun Silk Epil 9 and the Braun Silk Epil 7.

5. Braun 820 Facial Epilator and Facial Cleansing Brush

It was high time for Braun to release an epilator for face. But they didn’t stop there.

They also included a facial cleansing brush in the package. That’s why its price is not nearly as affordable as the price for Emjoi Epi-Slim, the model reviewed above.

Let’s see what the epilator has to offer and after that I’ll talk about the brush, too.

First of all, there are 3 packages under the Braun Facial Epilator and Cleansing Brush name. There’s the 810 model, the 820 and the 830, the latter being the most expensive of all 3 because it has a lighted mirror and a beauty pouch. It’s also known as the premium edition.

The difference between Braun 810 and Braun 820 is that the latter includes and extra brush refill. So, I’ve considered the 820 to be the best deal from the 3.

Want to know the best part?

This epilator is one of the prettiest that I’ve seen.

Its shape is unique, the head is really slim so that it can function with a better precision in small areas, like the space between our eyebrows. You’ll get used to it pretty quickly.

10 tweezers

The Braun 820 Facial Epilator has 10 tweezers.

It’s a powerful epilator for face. It has no problem with coarse hairs. And the peach fuzz is easily removed from the root, too. It can be used on all areas of the face.

Regarding the cleansing brush, it’s one of the best ways to exfoliate your face.I’m all in favor of using facial cleansing brushes.

However, you should know that the brush included by Braun cleans the face through rotations. That’s why it should only be used by people who don’t suffer from breakouts or zits. The rotations might make them worse.

As a small update

I really don’t know what to think about this epilator.

I was really excited about recommending the Braun facial epilator because it had an amazing shape and it had 10 tweezers, which would make it really powerful.

However, many users have reported battery problems. The average time seems to be 6 months. After 6 months some models have stopped working entirely.

For the price it had, Braun could have found a way to make it rechargeable instead of working on batteries.

Thus, if you want just a facial epilator get the Emjoi e18. In my opinion, it’s the best facial epilator.

With the Braun 820 it’s a matter of luck. You can be the lucky one that gets a fully functioning model for a long time. But there is also the reverse of the medal.

An alternative to Braun 820 is Braun 851, the same device but with a few more accessories.

If you want an epilator for face + body, check out the two models below.

6. Bellabe: An Alternative to Rotatory Facial Epilators

Bellabe is an alternative to rotatory epilators for face. It has become highly popular in the recent years. So let’s see if it would suit your needs or not.

What is it?

It’s basically a spring with two handles so some might say that it’s a little bit expensive for a spring but a big amount of reviews say it works great in removing thin fine hairs from the root.

I’ve only mentioned that Bellabe works great for removing peach fuzz/thinner hairs but its results are not that great when it comes to removing coarse hairs. For that, you will be better off with the Emjoi Epi Slim or either one of the two Braun devices.

How do you use it?

A facial epilator removes hairs from the root, which means that you will have smooth facial skin for around two weeks up to a month! That’s the biggest advantage.

What’s so great about Bellabe?

The results are long lasting, it’s incredibly easy to use, it’s affordable, and it’s fast.

Even though multiple passes are necessary for getting all the hairs removed from the root, suffering from irritations may not be a viable concern.

It hurts just like any other epilator because it removes multiple hairs from the root at the same time but, as I always say, you get used to it rapidly.

It’s only recommended for the upper lip, cheeks, and chin so you should keep it away from your eyebrows.

Why Should You Choose an Epilator for Face?

why choose a facial epilator

If you are tired of waxing but still want a method that offers the same results (hair-free skin for about 2 weeks) then it’s time to check out the best epilators for face.

With an epilator everything is so simple.

What you should expect: if you get an epilator, the results are comparable to those that you get from waxing.

By the way, facial wax strips are also great, I’ve used them for many years before switching to epilating my facial hair.

A few years ago, I bought a Braun 9561 and since it comes with a facial cap, I decided to give it a try.

It was really good, fast, and efficient so I replaced my cold facial wax strips with my epilator.

After, I also added the Braun 7561 on my list of favorite devices and I switch between those two.

Nevertheless, I am glad that I used wax strips for so long before my skin was totally used to the shock of removing hairs from the root so, nowadays, even the post-epilation redness is gone in an hour or so.

Removes hairs from the roots

A facial epilator removes hairs from the root, which means that you will have smooth skin for around two weeks up to a month! That’s the biggest advantage.

An epilator for face is also a cheap hair removal method.

After buying the device that’s best for you, batteries are at best the only spending that you’ll have to make if you’re getting an epilator like the Emjoi e18.

If you’re getting one like the ones I use then you just have to charge it.

It works on both peach fuzz and coarse hairs.

Did you know that peach fuzz is actually known as vellus hair? I had no idea.

How to Choose The Best Epilator for Face

When deciding to get an epilator for face there is an important question to be considered.

Do you want a device designed to remove only facial hair or do you want an epilator that can be used to remove hair from all over your body, including facial hair?

I will speak about both choices and, hopefully, after reading this post you will decide which option is the best one.

Some women have thin hair/peach fuzz, while others have coarse hair.

These two classifications are the most important criteria to consider when choosing the best epilator for face.

Epilator for face vs epilator for body + facial cap

Some facial epilators are not powerful enough to pull out coarse hairs from the root, while others are just cutting the hairs at the surface of the skin.

That’s not their job. Their job is to remove facial hair from the root.

Here’s how you use it

Just use your chosen epilator in the opposite direction of the hair growth and move it gently. If you’ve used a tweezer to remove facial hair then you know that it hurts so an epilator hurts, too.

The pain is a little more intense because many hairs are removed at the same time. But it’s also a lot faster and in time you get used to those pinches.

Can you use an epilator on your eyebrows?

The answer is no.

Tweezers or threading are pretty much your options.

If you plan on removing hair from your eyebrows, hold on to your tweezer because the surface of any epilator for face is just too big for the eyebrows.

Other than the eyebrows, you can use an epilator on the entire face: sideburns, cheeks, upper lip, and chin.

That’s it.

These are my recommendations for some of the best epilators for face, which one do you prefer or which facial epilator model are you using at the moment?

For me, Braun Silk Epil 9 is my new best epilator for face and I love it. It’s not just an epilator for face but I use it to remove hair from my whole body.

However, the Emjoi e18 is one of the best epilators for face, without a doubt.
