Braun Silk-Epil 9 Review

Braun Silk Epil 9 Review

Braun has done it again. Just when you thought that they have done pretty much everything in terms of design, power, and efficiency, they release the Braun Silk-Epil 9 series.

When I saw it in an electronics store, put next to the 7681 and the other epilators from Philips and Panasonic, I was in awe with it. I didn’t have eyes for any other model. My attention was fully captivated.

My Braun Silk Epil 9 epilator review is going to be a pretty long one so if you want just the highlights, here’s what you need to know:

Pros: There are a lot of pros for the Braun Silk Epil 9 series:

  • the 9579 is pretty much a complete epilator
  • and the best epilator from this new series from Braun
  • this new series has looks, power, efficiency, and it removes hairs from the root like no other
  • it’s one of the best epilators at the moment
  • and it has become my favorite

Cons: I have just three cons:

  • the first one is that you cannot use any 9 series model when it’s charging, you can only use it cordless
  • the second is the price, obviously
  • and last but not least, unlike the Braun Silk Epil 7 the Silk Epil 9 doesn’t have a sensitive area cap for the intimate area

It’s an expensive device but worth it if you can afford it.

However,

If you already own a braun silk epil 7 I don’t really see a point in wanting to replace it with a silk epil 9 epilator. As you’re going to see, they’re pretty similar.

I bought the 9561 and after using it, it totally convinced me that it delivers everything one would expect from such a great epilator.

It’s the same epilator as the 9579 minus the cleansing brush for face. I already have a cleansing brush so there was no point in getting another one. Thus, I decided to get the 9561 at an awesome price.

The prices for the Braun 9 epilators have reached acceptable levels so it was definitely the time for me to get a model and I’m so happy I did!

Initially,

I wanted to get the Philips HP6576 because that idea of an epilator with ceramic tweezers still sounds tempting to me. I pushed the Philips aside because I simply had to try the latest released epilators.

I don’t regret my choice at all.

This Review Will Cover:

1. This is one of the prettiest epilators on the market which finally, after months of waiting, has a very good price.

2. It’s also incredibly powerful, fast, and efficient even when removing tiny or thin hairs. It also removes coarse hairs.

3. It has a lot of accessories – some models even have the Braun 810 facial epilator as an accessory.

4. There are a lot of models, including the SkinSpa ones. The difference between all these models is made by the accessories that come with the epilator. The device is the same for all.

5. My impressions and my first experience with my new epilator.

Design

I think this is the prettiest epilator at the moment.

When I first saw the Silk-Epil 7681, an all-white model with some grey touches, obviously I thought the same thing about it at that moment.

That 40% wider head doesn’t only impact performance but it makes the Braun Silk-Epil 9 models so much prettier.

Those touches of purple are perfect for making it stand out even more, and I don’t even like that color. Some models have touches of blue or bright pink.

It’s ergonomically shaped. It’s really easy to hold, whether you’re removing hairs from the face, legs, bikini line, underarms and so on.

It’s not heavy and its shape fitted right in the palm of my hand.

Braun 9 tweezers

What about the Tweezers?

If we were to make a comparison Braun Silk-Epil 9 vs. the Silk-Epil 7, the first thing we would notice is that the tweezers are very different.

Braun has made one feature to stand out from the rest:

The new models have a 40% wider head to cover more skin and speed up the epilation process. It’s an attractive feature and a truly practical one.

Obvisouly,

The 40% wider head doesn’t mean 40% more tweezers than the 40 tweezers on the Braun Silk-Epil 7. They are just arranged and shaped differently.

On the 9 model, the tweezers are bigger, of a different shape, and positioned differently than on the 7 model.

But here’s the kicker:

Regarding the actual number of tweezers that the Braun Silk Epil 9 has I was a little confused for a long time because this information wasn’t mentioned anywhere. By putting the 9 and the 7 epilators together I was inclined to believe that there are 40+ tweezers.

However it turned out that it was only my impression because the head is 40% wider and the tweezers are differently shaped and positioned.

Thus:

There are 40 tweezers and I am truly glad that someone helped me with this information by leaving me a comment so I can know what to say in my Braun Silk Epil 9 review.

Instead of the close-grip technology, this time we have the microgrip tweezer technology.Their purpose is to remove even the tiniest hairs, as short as 0.5mm.

My 9561 removed my upper lip hairs which are thin fine hairs so the Silk Epil 9 epilator is capable of removing the tiniest of hairs as well as the coarsest ones.

However:

Don’t get your hopes up. Even though your skin will be silky-smooth, some hairs are still going to be left behind.

There are really really thin short hairs that no epilator can remove, it’s just how epilation works.

Accessories

Braun Silk Epil 9 accessories

There are many Silk-Epil 9 models.

The accessories vary, based on which model you’re going to get. Obviously, the epilator is the same for all the models.

The epilator is identical, the same number of tweezers and everything. The price varies according to the accessories included in the box.

The common accessories that come with all the models are:

  • massage system
  • skin contact cap that lets the tweezers make direct contact with the skin making the Braun 9 really fast and efficient but at the same time more painful by just a bit
  • pivoting head
  • softlift tips for lifting flat-lying hairs
  • built-in light
  • washable head
  • 2 speeds.

The accessories that vary from model to model are: facial cap, shaver head and trimmer cap, charging stand, exfoliation brush, and facial cleansing brush.

The big surprise for me is that one of the accessories for some models, like the Braun Silk-Epil 9538 and the 9958, is a facial epilator, Braun 810.

Braun has continued the tradition and this series has SkinSpa models, too – the 9961 SkinSpa or the 9969. It comes with the same exfoliation brush for the body, as the one that comes with the Braun Silk-Epil 7 SkinSpa.

As you can see, there are a lot of models and I didn’t even mention all of them. I like this diversity, even though it might make us a bit confused.

But a great diversity also means that pretty much every woman can find what she wants and needs. Even though it comes at a pretty high price.

With all that:

If I were to recommend one model, that would be the Braun Silk Epil 9579.

It’s the most complete, in my opinion, and I think it will also become the most popular from the series.

It has all the caps and heads, including the facial cap so you don’t need a separate facial epilator, it also has the cleansing brush for facial exfoliation, the charging stand, and the shaver head and trimmer cap.

Nevertheless,

None of the Braun Silk Epil 9 epilators come with a sensitive area cap.

I my opinion, that’s a pretty big con because I can’t recommend it to women who have just shaved their intimate area and now want to switch directly to epilation. Those who have waxed can withstand the pain even without a sensitive area cap, just with the massage rolls attachment.

Wet & Dry

These new models, the successors of the 7 series, are also wet & dry. It means that you can use them in the shower.

Furthermore,

It also means that you cannot use your epilator when it’s charging. I advise you to charge it full every time to take advantage of its full power and speed.

You get 40 minutes of usage and it takes 1 hour to charge the battery full. I’m satisfied with the battery life.

I had it charged to be prepared for my next session. It was all so fast. I put it in the charging stand and the next time I looked at it was fully charged.

The green led flashes when it’s charging. When it’s fully charged it stops flashing.

Cons

For the moment, I can only mention the high price as a con. It’s a pity that not everyone can afford the Silk-Epil 9 epilator.

Secondly,

there’s also the fact that you cannot use it while charging. Since it’s a wet & dry series, the models can only be used on battery. I recommend charging the epilator fully before using it.

Thirdly,

As I’ve already mentioned above, there’s no sensitive area cap.

Let’s hope that neither of these new epilators will receive any complaints regarding their battery, like it happened with the previous series, the 7 one.

My Experience with the Braun Silk Epil 9

It took me about 30 minutes to epilate my legs, which is a really good time considering that I hadn’t removed my hairs for about 3 weeks. There were a lot of hairs on my legs. Most of them are pretty thick but there are also a lot of thin ones.

Braun Silk Epil 9 epilator

Most of the hairs were removed from the first pass. However, you will need a second pass if you don’t want to leave any hairs behind.

My legs felt incredibly smooth, especially after applying the moisturizer.

The amazing smoothness lasted for about 4 days, after that if you gently caress the skin against the direction in which the hair is growing, you can feel that some hairs are starting to come out. The hairs are not visible with the naked eye.

As with any other epilator that I’ve owned,

Yn the summer I will use it once every 2 weeks and in the winter I will even push it once every month even though it will take me longer and the pain will be greater but I consider that I have the right to be lazy at least 6 months a year.

If you are one of those lucky women who don’t have black hairs and a lot of them, you can push it to a month even during the summer.

I used the epilator in the shower even though the water wasn’t that hot and I didn’t have the patience to stay under the running water for too long. Basically, removing my underarms hairs hurt the same and I missed some hairs too.

The good news is that the Braun Silk Epil 9 works good on wet hairs too. It doesn’t break them and the tweezers nicely catch the hairs.

The only thing to remember is that you need to have the pores opened if you aim for less pain. I will not repeat the experience. I was just curious and I wanted to share it in my Braun Silk Epil 9 review.

Want to know the best part?

I used my 9561 to remove my upper lip hairs. I attached the facial cap, started the epilator on speed 1 and gently approached it to my upper lip, feeling really nervous.

Immediately I felt a sting and a tickling.

It’s pretty painful but I’m sure I’ll get used to it because I completely liked the results. All the hairs were gone, it was fast, and easy to use once I got the hang of it.

Follow the rule:

If it doesn’t hurt it means that you’re doing something wrong.

When removing facial hair you need to press a little the epilator against the skin because the facial cap obstructs most of the tweezers. There are very few left and those need to get close to the skin.

The idea is that I’m going to keep using it on my face and I’ve officially given up on using facial wax strips. I’m now an epilator girl from top to bottom.

Also the battery life is great.

Read the 3 pages that are in the manual. It teaches you everything you need to know.

As I’m ending my Braun Silk-Epil 9 review, I just want to mention one thing:

This epilator is totally worth it as long as you can afford it.

It’s fast, powerful, efficient, it remove hairs from the entire body and face, it removes thin fine hairs as well as coarse ones without a problem, and it’s pretty 🙂
