The 6 Best Hair Removal Methods for Face

Most of the best hair removal methods for face can definitely be done at home and that’s a major benefit.

There are just a few that make an exception: threading, laser hair removal (can also be done at home with some IPL systems), and electrolysis. These 3 require a specialist that will take care of you.

I am not a fan of going to beauty salons. I must admit that even getting my hair cut is a bit of a chore for me.

I prefer doing things at home, at my own pace, and that’s why I gravitated first towards using a pair of tweezers, then I upgraded to using cold facial wax strips, and then I turned towards epilation when I got an epilator for body that also included a facial cap.

What I definitely enjoyed that I tried at a beauty salon was threading. Those few experiences were great.

I wouldn’t recommend using a pair of tweezers, it’s a painful and slow process.

Speaking of pain, you’re also going to discover that not all best hair removal methods for face have to be painful.

We’ll be talking about shaving your facial hair (yes, women can shave their facial hair, too, you’ll see how) or using depilatory creams created just for facial hair removal.

Facial hair is a major burden but once you find the right best hair removal method for face that works for you, things can be so much more bearable.

It’s important to find the right way to get rid of it, there are a bunch of best facial hair removal methods for women to choose from.

Let’s see what might interest you.

6 Best Hair Removal Methods for Face for Women

Some women are just battling peach fuzz. They are the lucky ones. While others have to carry a battle against coarse hairs.

I only have peach fuzz and I consider myself to be really lucky. I just remove my upper lip and tweeze my eyebrows.

facial hair removal methods for women

I’ve been using wax strips for my upper lip since I was in college and I preferred them for so many years until I got myself an epilator with a facial cap.

Since then, I’ve been epilating my upper lip.

As I grow older I know that there will be other areas that I will need to use my epilator on, like the chin and even the jaw.

Even though it’s painful, at least it’s quick, efficient, and the smooth skin lasts for 2 weeks.

I hope you’ll find the method that satisfies your needs among all these facial hair removal methods.

1. Shaving: Painless and No Longer Taboo

Shaving has become increasingly popular among women who want to remove their facial hair easily, fast, and without feeling any pain.

It has slowly become an included item when it comes to talking about facial hair removal for women.

However, it’s not exactly how men do it.

The razors are completely different from those used by men to shave their faces. One of the most popular is called the Tinkle. And they are used directly on dry skin.

Would I try it?

No.

Even though it’s cheap and no pain is felt, the results are quickly gone. You get smooth skin for a couple of days and that’s not long enough for me.

How much time passes until the hairs become noticeable again is the most important factor for me. Even though some women argue that by shaving your face you’re rejuvenating it because these kind of facial razors for women also work as facial exfoliating tools.

Even though I personally wouldn’t try it, I recommend shaving as a best hair removal method for face because it’s:

  • cheap
  • fast
  • painless
  • the razors are used on dry skin without the risk of cuts
  • no razor bumps or irritation
  • works both for coarse hairs and peach fuzz
  • can be used on the entire face

I would definitely recommend it to those who get breakouts from any other facial hair removal method for women.

2. Hair Removal Creams: Painless Facial Hair Removal Method

Hair removal creams are your second option if you don’t want to feel any pain.

It’s totally painless, it’s cheap and it can be done at home. In a matter of around 8 minutes you will be free of any unwanted hairs.

The downside is pretty obvious: you will have to repeat the process in about 5 days.

The results are a bit longer than what shaving offers so it tops the preferences when it comes to painless facial hair removal for women.

The hairs are dissolved at the surface of the skin. The roots are left intact. Just like it happens when using a razor.

Hair removal creams work on any type of hair – whether fine, medium or coarse.

These are the main pros and cons for depilatory creams.

Neverthless,

I think that using a razor like the Tinkle or the Schick Silk Touch-Up Facial Razor  is much easier with no waiting time involved.

3. Cold Facial Wax Strips: Fast and Easy

Cold wax strips are amazing. And I’m not saying that just because I used to use them.

They are incredibly easy to use and can be used at home.

It’s also a really affordable method.

The hairs are removed from the root. Some pinches are going to be felt. Or a stinging sensation.

On the bright side, your face will be hair free for at least two weeks up to a month.

Since this is cold wax, you will want to rub the strips between your hands to warm the wax a little. Then it’s ready for use.

Apply the cold wax strip in the direction of hair growth, massage the wax a bit with your fingers so that the wax sticks properly to the hairs, and the get ready to pull in the opposite direction of hair growth.

Just remember: when pulling, don’t hesitate. It’s the only secret. Pull the strip quickly and swiftly. If it’s your first time, maybe you should ask someone to do it for you.

And hold the skin as taut as you can. Use your free hand to stretch it properly before pulling.

Using cold facial wax strips is simply one of the best hair removal methods for face because they’re accessible, affordable, can be used at home, it gets rid of unwanted facial hair very fast, and you get smooth facial skin for at least 2 weeks. That’s a very good deal.

They’re also not messy.

But they might cause breakouts, especially for those who are acne-prone. Read my tips for avoiding breakouts that can happen when pulling hairs from their follicles.

I wouldn’t recommend using cold facial wax strips on the eyebrows, except cutting them to fit for the area between the eyebrows. But a pair of tweezers is much easier to use.

Waxing pulls both peach fuzz and coarse hairs from their follicles with the same ease.

If you’re already using hard wax for your body, you can use it for facial hair removal, too. Hard wax is the best choice but it’s not as easy to handle as cold facial wax strips.

I’ve used cold wax strips for my upper lip for many years and I didn’t think I will give them up.

That was until I tried the next best hair removal method for face.

4. Epilators for Face: Cheap and Convenient

An epilator for face is a great facial hair removal method.

A good one costs around $20-$30.

That’s really cheap. Once you’ve spent that sum, you get to use it for at least two years.

You will only have to buy 2 AA batteries from time to time.

You can also use a facial epilator on the bikini area. It’s also good for the underarms.

These tiny devices with tiny tweezers rotate and grab the hairs and pull them from the root, offering amazing smooth skin for usually at least two weeks.

From my point of view, it’s totally worth it. Even though it’s not pain-free.

The pain is more intense than what you feel when you wax.

But you get used to it after a few sessions. The good news is that it only takes a couple of minutes to remove the hairs from the upper lip.

Epilators are incredibly easy to use and easy to clean. Te instructions are easy to follow. Simply remove the hairs in the opposite direction of their growth.

You can use them on the upper lip, chin, sideburns, the whole face except the eyebrows. Epilation is my current and favorite facial hair removal method.

Epilators remove from their roots both peach fuzz and coarse hairs.

5. Threading: Great for Sensitive Skin

Threading is such a simple best hair removal method for face but it requires a specialist.

You need to go to a threading salon and the prices are not exactly cheap.

If waxing causes you to break out, threading might be the next facial hair removal method to consider.

It’s also less painful than waxing.

It will give you the best shape for your eyebrows but it works just as wonderfully for the rest of the face.

Epilators are definitely out of the question if you are acne-prone and have already experience breakouts from waxing.

Threading is more gentle on the skin, it doesn’t irritate the skin as easily even though, by simply using a cotton thread hair are pulled from their follicles.

The smooth skin will last for at least 2 weeks. And it works on both peach fuzz and coarse hairs. It’s a best hair removal method for face without a doubt, especially for those with sensitive skin.

6. Electrolysis: Hair Forever Gone

Electrolysis is actually the only permanent hair removal method.

It’s a little bit more complicated than laser hair removal so it can only be performed by a specialist.

It’s also the most expensive method and, from my point of view, that’s the biggest disadvantage for electrolysis.

How does it work?

Well, a fine metal probe that looks like a tiny needle is inserted into the follicle. After that, electricity is sent via that metal probe in order to permanently destroy the follicle.

That’s why it’s permanent. Because the follicle is destroyed for good. It’s fascinating.

A little discomfort can be felt but usually not pain. That’s really great.

You will need a good specialist, who knows exactly what he’s doing and who is dedicated to making all your hairs disappear for a lifetime.

Do your proper research before undergoing electrolysis.

Absolutely everyone can benefit from the amazing results offered by electrolysis!

If you want to get rid of all existent facial hair, it will take about a year. The cost depends, it can be as low as $25 per session and up to a couple hundreds. There’s no exact price.

Just remember:

No matter how you remove your unwanted facial hair, whatever method you end up choosing from these 6 best hair removal methods for face, don’t forget to exfoliate before each session, a day before the actual hair removal would be great.
